Marilyn Bird Legacy Fundraiser

$4,200 of $5,000 raised

Marilyn Bird was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend from Old Town, Maine. During her second marriage, Marilyn also became a survivor of domestic violence and Spruce Run (now Partners for Peace) played an integral role in helping her and her young son get back on their feet. Marilyn soon became a long-time, dedicated volunteer for the organization. When she passed away in 1988, her family asked that donations be made to Spruce Run in lieu of flowers.

Missing Marilyn and wanting to honor her memory, the staff chose to put the donations in a fund with a purpose to help survivors of domestic violence directly when unplanned expenses came up as a result of the abuse. Because the staff wanted to make sure to keep the fund going, they all contributed small deductions from their paychecks. This tradition has continued through an employee contribution campaign at Partners for Peace keeping Marilyn’s memory alive and survivors safe.

Marilyn’s family, touched by the notion that the organization has kept this fund alive for all these years, have decided to ensure that these funds are always available to survivors for “the little things that mean a lot.” With this in mind, the family has set out to raise $5,000 for the Marilyn Bird Legacy Fund. Please consider honoring Marilyn and survivors of domestic violence with a gift of significance to you.
