For more than 50 years, Partners for Peace has supported people affected by domestic violence and abuse and worked toward creating safer communities; that commitment remains at the heart of our mission today. As part of our strategic planning process that began in 2026, we listened to survivors, community partners, donors, and supporters to clarify our mission and vision. These updated statements reflect who we are, the future we are working toward, and how our approach continues to evolve to meet our community’s changing and growing needs.
Our Vision:
All are free to thrive in relationships, families, and communities that are safe and equitable.
Our Mission:
We partner with people and communities affected by domestic violence and abuse in Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties to provide confidential support and services shaped by survivors’ voices. We advocate for lasting peace through prevention, education, and awareness, challenging societal conditions that lead to abuse.
Our Values
Over the course of several months in FY24, Partners for Peace staff and board members came together to create a shared Values Statement. We are proud to share these values, which will serve as a foundation for how we work, make decisions, and show up for one another. They reflect not only how we treat each other within our organization but also how we engage with survivors and our broader community.
- CARING. We act with compassion, empathy, and respect in our support of individuals, allowing them to find and sustain hope.
- BELONGING. We seek to foster a more equitable world by working to create a safe, inclusive, accessible, and diverse community in which all people can share their truth.
- AUTHENTICITY. We work to continually align our actions with our words, welcoming and encouraging all people to live as their truest selves.
- GROWTH. We pursue, create, and engage in opportunities to reflect, learn, and change, remaining flexible and adaptable to support others and ourselves.
- COLLABORATION. We connect with our community and encourage all to listen and amplify the voices of those with lived experience and act together towards a more peaceful and just world.
- JUSTICE. We journey with people as they discover what justice means to them and advocate for systemic and social change.
At Partners for Peace, our values guide how we support individuals, work together, and engage with our communities. We lead with compassion, empathy, and respect to help people find hope and stability during difficult times. We strive to create an environment where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and supported. We prioritize integrity by aligning our actions with our words and encouraging people to be themselves. We value ongoing learning and adaptability to meet evolving needs and challenges. We believe in the power of connection and collaboration, working together with others to meet shared goals. And we walk alongside individuals as they define and pursue their own sense of fairness and healing.
